Easy ways to use herbs

Do you wish you used more herbs in your cooking?

If you are pan frying, place some sprigs of thyme or rosemary in the pan with the cooking oil or butter. Allow to simmer for a minute or two, remove the herbs (or not) and add your meats. fish or vegetables and continue cooking.

Not a fan of pan frying?

Make a marinade! A typical marinade is made up of three essential components: an acid (such as vinegar, wine, or citrus), an oil (such as olive oil or sesame oil), and a flavouring agent (such as herbs and spices). Chop your favorite herbs, add to the mixture. Place the marinade mixture and the chosen meat or vegetables in a zip lock bag and pop in the refrigerator for an hour or overnight. (Do not reuse the marinade. If you want to make a sauce for the dish remember to reserve some before you add the meat).

Infused waters are another easy way to and flavors and keep you hydrated. Mint in water or tea is the most common, but try basil, rosemary thyme, lavender and pieces of your favorite fruits. Allow to infuse in your fridge for a tasty cool drink!

And don’t forget desserts! A little lemon basil mixed in some ice cream, dried mint added to chocolate chip cookies or lavender added to a cake batter. The possibilities are endless!

And I’m told a sprig of chocolate mint in a glass of bourbon is excellent!
